Omnicell (OMCL) Company Overview

Headquartered in Mountain View, CA, Omnicell, Inc. (OMCL), founded in 1992, develops and markets end-to-end automation solutions for the medication-use process. These automation solutions contain medication and supply dispensing systems, central pharmacy storage, retrieval and packaging solutions, a bedside automation solution, a physician order management solution, a decision support application, and a Web-based procurement application. These solutions enable healthcare facilities to acquire, manage, dispense and deliver pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, as well as enhance patient safety, reduce medication errors, improve workflow, and increase operational efficiency. The company provides procurement and inventory management systems to more than 1,600 healthcare l: hospitals, integrated delivery networks, and specialty healthcare facilities, including nursing homes, outpatient surgery centers, catheterization labs and clinics. The company's major medication use product offerings include OmniRx, Omnicell PharmacyCentral, SafetyPak, SafetyMed, OmniLinkRx, and DecisionCenter. The company s medication and surgical supply products include OmniSupplier, OptiFlex and OmniBuyer. Through its PharmacyCentral and SafetyPak products, OMCL offers automation to the central pharmacy and improves the storage and retrieval of medications. While SafetyMed is a bar code-based bedside automation solution, OmniLinkRx is used to enhance communication between nursing and pharmacy staff while transmitting and filling medication orders. DecisionCenter provides trend analysis and decision support based on data gathered by its medication and supply dispensing systems. OmniSupplier is a cabinet-based system for dispensing supplies at point of use. OptiFlex is an open-shelf management system that utilizes barcode control. OmniBuyer automates the healthcare facility's requisition process. The company sells its medication and supply dispensing systems primarily in the United States. It has a direct sales force organized into six regions in the United States and Canada. OMCL sells through distributors in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. A majority of the systems are manufactured in the production facility in Mountain View, CA, with refurbishment and spare parts available at a Waukegan, IL facility. In full-year 2006, product offerings contributed 79% to total revenue and the remaining came from service offerings. Service and other revenues include contribution from service and maintenance contracts and rentals of automation systems.
