HealthSouth Corporation until recently was one of the largest providers of ambulatory surgery, rehabilitative health care, and diagnostic imaging services in the United States, with 1,003 facilities and approximately 34,000 employees as at September 30, 2005. HLS is the nation's largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services with inpatient facilities located in 28 states, primarily Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama.
