Shares of Bright Horizons (Nasdaq: BFAM) surged in its market debut. On the downside Select Comfort (Nasdaq: SCSS) reported lower fourth quarter earnings that fell short of analyst expectations and forecast 2013 income below estimates.BG Medicine (Nasdaq: BGMD) priced its public offering of 6 million common shares at the discounted price of $2 per share. 8x8 (Nasdaq: EGHT) reported lower third quarter earnings prompting a downgrade. In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 9 to 7 on both the NYSE and on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 index held gained 5 points to 1500.
