Queen Elizabeth Issues Decree Ensuring Any Daughter Of Prince William Will Be Called Princess

In preparation for the royal baby, Queen Elizabeth has overturned her grandfather’s decree that any daughter, including a firstborn, born to the Prince of Wales will not hold the title of princess. Queen Elizabeth decreed that all daughters of the Prince of Wales will be called princess. That means if the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge has a daughter the little girl’s first name will be prefixed by Princess.

"The Queen has been pleased by Letters Patentunder the Great Seal of the Realm dated 31 December 2012 to declare that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour,” a royal spokesperson said.

Her Majesty’s decree comes amidst the UK government’s move to eliminate gender discrimination when it comes to the line of succession to the throne. Proposed changes will ensure a firstborn girl will become queen even if she has a brother.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have not announced the gender of their child.
