Atempo, Inc., the leader in data protection and storage security for trusted information lifecycle management (ILM), today announced the appointment of Neal Ater as CEO. Ater, a 25-year veteran of the storage industry, was most recently CEO of software start-up Storactive, where his achievements included guiding Storactive to a leading position in the continuous data protection market and directing the company through a successful merger with Atempo.
Prior to Storactive, Ater held executive level positions at Veritas, where he was responsible for the engineering and product management of Veritas' data protection businesses, and Seagate Software, where he was responsible for all product development for the Network and Storage Management Group. In addition to Storactive, Ater's entrepreneurial expertise also includes two highly successful startup ventures, Goal Systems International, a leading mainframe systems management company, and OnDemand Software, an industry-leading developer of software distribution products.
"We are very pleased to bring on a seasoned storage veteran of Neal's caliber to lead the Atempo management team and help shape the future of this fast-growing company," said Dag Syrrist, general partner at Vision Capital and Atempo board member. "Neal's depth of knowledge in the storage industry, business relationships, technical expertise and demonstrated leadership will prove invaluable in delivering on Atempo's long-term strategic vision."
"This is a tremendous opportunity, and I am honored to join Atempo at this exciting time in the company's expansion," said Ater. "I look forward to working with the Atempo team to capitalize on the company's unique opportunities in the worldwide enterprise data protection market."
Ater is chairman of Atempo's board of directors and also sits on the board of Data Domain, a leading provider of capacity optimized storage systems, and MindLeaders, an employee performance-improvement e-learning company.
