Alcatel-Lucent posts 3.89B euro loss as it takes hefty charge

Alcatel-Lucent SA, the world’s largest maker of telecoms equipment, on Wednesday says its fourth-quarter loss widened significantly as it wrote down the value of assets by 3.9 billion euros ($ 5 billion), but a better-than-expected underlying performance helps the shares.
