CLEVELAND, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has announced a new contract to deliver wireless access to MetroHealth System, one of the largest, most comprehensive health care providers in northeastern Ohio that serves 15 locations across the state. Under the terms of the contract, AT&T will deliver an Aruba Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN) wireless local area network (LAN) and identity-based security solution, including hardware, installation and maintenance to support approximately 3 million square feet of wireless access for the hospital staff.
With AT&T providing installation and maintenance, the MetroHealth System solution will provide secure wireless and wireline networking for voice, video and data applications. The solution is designed to give hospital staff a reliable, facilitywide wireless network that offers immediate, always-available access to patient and medical information on a single robust, cost-efficient converged platform.
"We wanted a wireless communications solution that uses advanced technologies to give our entire hospital staff immediate access to critical patient information and hospital inventory records," said Alan Greenslade, director of Information Services, Infrastructure, for MetroHealth System. "By turning to AT&T and Aruba Networks for our wireless network, we can be confident in the reliability of the communications services on which we depend to deliver superior patient care."
Since anytime connectivity to the hospital information system is imperative to patient care, MetroHealth System will be able to leverage the increased reliability, scalability and security benefits brought by the wireless platform. The converged wireless data network will be designed to securely transfer confidential patient information between locations throughout the health care system and support voice communications and access to the electronic medical records system. The network is also designed to provide radio frequency identification (RFID) capability to locate medical equipment, such as EKG carts, anywhere throughout the facility.
