Space.com Parent Imaginova Acquires Comic Book Site Newsarama
Science media company Imaginova, the parent company of Space.com, Aviation.com and LiveScience.com, is acquiring comic book site Newsarama.com. The acquisitions takes Imaginova out of its traditional science realm, but the company sees plenty of crossover in terms of audience (the geek audience, I suppose, or as they phrase it: “expands the brand’s reach into the ‘intellectually curious’ target audience"). Imaginova, which started off as Space.com, before changing its name in 2004, raised $15 million last year, in part to fund acquisitions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Imaginova was founded in 1999 as Space.com, and after the boom and bust, in 2004 it changed the name of the company to Imaginova. It now has other brands such as LiveScience.com, Aviation.com and SpaceNews.com.
