Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller, today announced that its stores across the country will host “The End Is Here” parties to celebrate the release on Friday, October 13, of The End, the thirteenth and final book in Lemony Snicket’s “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” Special in-store events and parties are being planned for that unfortunate evening at more than 700 Barnes & Noble stores nationwide.
Daniel Handler, representative for author Lemony Snicket, and Brett Helquist, illustrator, will host a “The End is Here” party at the Union Square Barnes & Noble (33 East 17th Street) in Manhattan. Appearing with Mr. Handler will be the Gothic Archies, who will perform from their CD, The Tragic Treasury: Songs from A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Inspired by the unfortunate Baudelaire orphans, activity stations at “The End is Here” parties at Barnes & Noble stores all across the country will include:
“A Series of Unfortunate Events” tells the unhappy tale of three very unlucky children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, who despite being clever and charming, lead lives filled with misery and woe as they are plagued by the villain Count Olaf.
“These books are a real escape,” said Josalyn Moran, vice president of children’s books for Barnes & Noble, Inc. “Just when you think the sun is on the horizon, the rain starts pouring down again. Fans will have a fantastic time capturing the essence of Lemony Snicket at our ‘The End is Here’ parties.”
Drawings will be held at each store to win an autographed copy of The End. “The End Is Here” party giveaways will include locker posters and iron-on “The End is Here” decals. Stores will sell “A Series of Unfortunate Events” Illuminated Eye Pens, a Barnes & Noble exclusive, with purchase of The End. Also available for purchase will be “A Series of Unfortunate Events” gift cards.
