PRLog - Jun 19, 2013 - TORONTO, Canada -- Canadian pop classical singing sensation Aria Tesolin debuted on the Top 40 chart of the US Hot 100 Singles this week, and is now number 33 on both Top 40 hit radio and AC radio with her smash hit The Key. This week also saw The Key at number seven in the top ten on the Top 30 Indie chart, joining the likes of Fun and Ed Sheeran. Tesolin is currently the only pop classical singer to chart on Top 40 radio, and the only female pop classical singer to do this.
The Key is the lead single from Tesolin’s newest album, Ascension, which features exciting new pop sensibilities to complement her classically trained operatic voice which fans have described as majestic, ethereal and mesmerizing.
The Key also became the highest debuting single on the AC/Hot AC Main Chart, ahead of singles by Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj, and Mumford & Sons. Tesolin also had the highest debuting single on the contemporary radio Top 40, appearing at number 35. This put her ahead of singles by artists Mariah Carey, Imagine Dragons, and Avril Lavigne. The Key’s music and lyrics were written by Tesolin herself, giving the music a much more personal feel.
“I’m so excited that people are connecting so passionately to The Key,” says Aria Tesolin. “I’m incredibly proud of that song and it’s really meaningful to me, so I’m glad others are finding meaning in it too. It’s really gratifying to work so hard on something and then be able to share it with the world.”
“Having the opportunity to be so involved with all aspects of The Key, and the entire album, has made it even more special to me, because these songs are coming from deep inside me,” says Tesolin. “I love being a songwriter as much as I love being a singer and performer, so it’s definitely something I plan on doing again for my next album. I’m always jotting down ideas and melodies for songs, I never really stop writing.”
For Ascension, Tesolin and producer Douglas Romanow developed a new style of music that combined the poetic originality of her lyrics in an innovative sonic landscape where classical influences combine with modern electronic sound, (harp, cello mixed with electronic piano and synthesizer effects), and her mezzo-soprano operatic voice. This album showcases Aria’s polished signature vocals with classical roots in an exciting musical direction where contemporary pop fusion meets classical. Her songs draw in elements of pop, rock, and music theatre and soulfully play with music, motif and meaning.
