PRLog - Jun 17, 2013 - Brooklyn based lifestyle agency Imperial Marketing Group (I.M.G.) is bringing back its original program Minds Behind the Music this summer. Sponsored by Hint Water, the series will take place Saturday August 3rd, 10th and 17th at Baruch College’s Performing Arts Center in New York City from 2:00-5:00pm.
Minds Behind the Music is an educational program meant to inform and inspire college students, recent graduates and young professionals interested in pursuing careers within the entertainment and media industries. Each session goes in-depth with managers and senior level executives, who candidly discuss their professional journeys, give career advice and answer questions on how to break into their field and respective industry.
The purpose of Minds Behind the Music is to enlighten college students & young professionals about the various career paths in entertainment and media through connecting them with executives who can help them get their foot in the door.
Young professionals themselves, the owners of I.M.G. (26 and 27) founded the company while in their senior year at Baruch College and were inspired to start the series based on their own professional journeys. “I think it’s important to remember you can always help others in some way,” says DW, owner/founder of I.M.G.
“I wouldn’t be where I am right now without meeting people who believed in my talent and to ensure continued profitability and growth in these industries, there should be more of a proactive effort in scouting professional talent, not just ‘talent’. There’s just not enough of a recruitment effort, especially in urban communities."
"Students should be more informed about career opportunities available to them in entertainment and media and be able to identify what those careers really look like," says Kartsen Venna, owner/founder of I.M.G. "Accountants, marketers, product managers, etc., are needed just like in any other industry. We wanted to create a platform to facilitate an engaging, enriching experience, not the pay-hundreds-of-dollars-I-don’t-have-to-wait-in-line-for-an-hour-to-talk-to-someone-for-5-minutes experience."
Held previously in '09 and '10, past speakers have included Peter Wells, Co-founder/Tunecore, Porfirio Pina, Director of Latin Music/BMI, Helen Little, Media Personality/106.7 Lite FM, LaTrice Burnette, former Director of Marketing/Atlantic Records and now Director, Urban Marketing/Epic Records, and Amy Andrieux, former General Manager of The Source Media Group and now Editorial Director/MTV World.
“We're really excited to bring the series back this year and at our alma mater nonetheless. The speakers are a mix of industry vets mixed with emerging one’s-to-watch who are young and will really be able to relate to the audience. We also have some surprise guests in the works as well. It’s like coming full circle you know. Being able to help others get their career started where we started ours."
