HP Rethinks Its Talent Strategy: Promote More, Go Outside Less
Ask Hewlett-Packard's head of human resources, Tracy Keogh, how the big Silicon Valley tech company filled its executive positions a few years ago, and a rueful look comes over her face. "We were everybody's favorite client in the executive-search industry," she says. HP had lost its ability -- or willingness -- to promote from within.
