Johnson Controls Recognized for Efforts to Improve Diversity and Inclusion

MILWAUKEE, April 30, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Johnson Controls, a global diversified company in the building and automotive industries, has been named one of 25 Noteworthy Companies as part of The 2013 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity by DiversityInc, a leading source of information on diversity management.   

“We are honored to have our comprehensive diversity and inclusion efforts recognized,” said Sandy Alston, executive director of Global Workforce Diversity and Inclusion for Johnson Controls. “This  shows that Johnson Controls is leveraging diversity and inclusion for competitive advantage.”

The company was cited in the first year it applied for consideration. Companies that earn noteworthy distinction in 2013 have the potential to be recognized as one of the 2014 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity. 

Johnson Controls’ diversity progress is monitored on a monthly basis by top executives in the company, including Stephen A. Roell, chairman and chief executive officer.  More than 30 percent of Johnson Controls employees in the United States are ethnic minorities, consistent with census data that shows a minority population in the U.S. of 31 percent.  Additionally, the number of female employees and female members of the board of directors exceeds U.S. manufacturing benchmarks.

As a means to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace, Johnson Controls has developed 26 affinity network chapters representing seven affinity groups in the U.S.  These affinity networks are key to enhancing cultural awareness and providing development and leadership opportunities for employees.
