Denver, April 22, 2013 /3BL Media/ - You can do something to help repair the devastation caused by the April 15th bombing at the Boston Marathon. Text the word BOSTON to 80108 to give $10 to The One Fund Boston, Inc. Donations will support victims of the tragic event.
One Fund Boston is a collaboration between the Massachusetts Governor’s office and the Mayor of Boston. Boston-area businesses were quick to seed major contributions to start The One Fund stating that the Boston Marathon is about courage, resilience and community. Companies around the country jumped in and now individuals can become every day philanthropists through mobile donations.
The wireless carriers and The mGive Foundation are driving the launch of a national text donation campaign. In response to outcries from a heartbroken nation that wanted to do something to help Boston, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint led the charge to get a mobile contribution campaign set up immediately.
“One Fund’s mantra is that they will stand together in the recovery of this tragedy as one state, one city, one people. Mobile donations add the layer that we are one nation, standing behind Boston and ready to help,” said Jenifer Snyder executive director of The mGive Foundation. “We saw the tragedy unfolding in the news, right in our backyard and at such a well-known event, and our instincts are that we must to do something. Texting a donation will mean making a real impact for Boston.”
mGive is the entity that helped raise nearly $70 million, through simple text donations, for a variety of issues and disasters. Their technology and processes are the backbone to the mobile channel for social good.
“Text donations are the modern-day version of the whole town coming out to help in times of crisis,” said Snyder. “From anywhere in the country, we can feel like we’re helping our “neighbors” in Boston after this horrific attack.”
