Think globally, act locally. That's the idea behind the presentation recently of a check for $14,193.19 to the American Cancer Society's AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston. The donation was made possible by the PartyLite "family" of independent business owners and Customers nationwide and employees at the PartyLite headquarters in Plymouth, Mass.
This is the 16th year of a national commitment to fundraising for the American Cancer Society at PartyLite, the world's number one party-plan company selling candles, candle holders, flameless fragrance, scent warmers and other home fragrance products.
Since 1997, PartyLite has donated nearly $14 million to the Society and is one of the largest corporate donors to this vital cause. Each year, funds are raised through a number of activities and donated to be used as needed.
This year, PartyLite elected to "act locally" by signifying that all funds raised in February would go to support the Hope Lodge nearest to its company headquarters - the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston.
"Everyone at PartyLite is moved by the wonderful work done at Hope Lodge," said Michael Norris, president of PartyLite Americas. "Guests typically spend six weeks there, drawing strength from one another, and feeling free to concentrate on their treatment and recovery without worrying about travel or lodging costs."
Noting that, since it opened in November 2008, the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge in Boston has provided more than 45,000 nights of free lodging to 1,450 cancer patients from 46 states and 12 countries, saving them more than $8.2 million in travel costs, Norris said PartyLite is totally committed to the ultimate goal of ending cancer, which "affects nearly every family in some way". PartyLite is equally committed to helping people make their way through treatment and recovery without additional financial strain. A member of the Society's New England Chapter of CEOs Against Cancer, Norris believes "we each do whatever we can, as individuals and as companies, to make a difference".
PartyLite independent business owners, employees and customers generously support the fight against cancer year-round by engaging in everything from bake sales to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life(R) National Corporate Team Program and making Strides Against Breast Cancer(R) National Partners Program. Customers also join in the support through the PartyLite Change the World(TM) program, which offers the opportunity to round up a PartyLite purchase total to the nearest dollar to support the fight against cancer.
The recent donation was also made possible through February sales of Strawberry Rhubarb GloLite by PartyLite(R) Jar Candles. PartyLite donates a portion of the sale of the candle year-round to the Society.
"PartyLite products help people celebrate," said Norris. "We join the American Cancer Society in its passionate goal to help people all over the world celebrate more birthdays."
