In an elaborate April Fool’s prank, the web giant Google invited visitors to try out a new feature, called “Google Nose.” Google, as per tradition, is out with their latest April Fools’ Day prank to celebrate the practical joke-based holiday. Other Google pranks on this year’s April Fools’ Day include shutting down YouTube and a treasure hunt on Google Maps.
In an ‘introductory video’ (Google seems to be doing a lot of them today), Jon Wooly of the ‘Google Nose’ team explains that they were inspired by his families puppy who uses her sense of smell to discover things.
“Google Search is incredibly powerful… But we’d realized that there’s an important part of the search experience we’d overlooked,” said Google Nose product manager, Jon Wooley.
Google Nose Beta touts that “Smelling is believing,” claiming an “aromabase” of over 15 million “scentibytes.”
