The Wallabout neighborhood of Brooklyn is back. The area nearby the Brooklyn Navy Yard and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, used to be home to a factory owned by chocolate-maker Hershey Co factory , is getting a boost from recent activity in the Navy Yard which includes Steiner Studios, a business incubator and other new developments, according to The Wall Street Journal . Wallabout, which maintains much of its industrial past and feel, was in decline when the candy factory closed and the Navy Yard was decommissioned in the 1960s. Today, the neighborhood is waking up. Two residential conversions are planned and Brooklyn Roasting Co., which will serve free-trade coffee, an organic grocer and other new retailers are expected to open.
