VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - March 28, 2013) - Tirex Resources Ltd. ("Tirex") (TSX VENTURE:TXX) is pleased to announce that Tirana, Albania has been chosen to host the 7th Congress of the Balkan Geophysical Society and that Prof. Dr. Perparim Alikaj, Tirex Country Manager has been appointed as a member of the organizing committee of this Congress.
The appointment of Dr. Alikaj reflects his commitment to the promotion of the Albanian natural resource industry, which includes such work as the Chairman of the Sub Committee for Mining and Oil & Gas of the Foreign Investors Association of Albania (FIAA).
Tirex will act as a sponsor at this high profile mining industry event and is pleased that Tirana was chosen as the host city for this occasion. Tirex believes that Albania has an opportunity to grow into a significant regional player in the European mining industry, with potential for production of copper, zinc, gold, silver, chrome, iron-nickel and other metals. Following this October 2013 event, is the 20th Carpathian - Balkan Geological Association Congress which is being held in September 2014 in Tirana.
In addition to Tirex's involvement supporting natural resource sector organizations and events within Albania, the company is also active in the promotion of the industry internationally. The company participated, last year, in Albanian focussed events in Ottawa and in New York and recently, Tirex Chief Executive Officer Bryan Slusarchuk was named to the Board of Directors of the Canada-Albania Business Council (CABC).
Onsite, Tirex mining engineers have recently visited, evaluated and assessed mine openings and access to the mining areas known as Fushe Arres, Tuc, Paluce and Qafe Bari (Tirex licenses: PN-4714-01-2013, PN-4715-01-2013, PN-4716-01-2013, PN-4717-01-2013). Tirex mining plans for these areas were approved during the mining licensing process, through which the company transitioned its exploration licenses to 25 year exploitation (mining) licenses after an investment of more than USD $25 million in six specific areas of the Mirdita Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide District.
As Tirex advances its projects in Albania, the company looks forward to continuing to work with multiple non-profit agencies inside and outside of the country to increase Albania's visibility as a natural resource investment destination for metals, oil and gas.
On Behalf of Management,
Bryan J. Slusarchuk, Chief Executive Officer
