Will stock traders support a crowd funding campaign to get data for a mobile app? That's the question on the mind of Shahar Tsadeek, developer of a charting and technical analysis app for iOS called Chart Tool. The campaign seeks $75k to add a global equity data feed to the app, in response to user requests for coverage of more markets.
"Users have told me they'll pay for data", said Tsadeek, "but I don't know if they'll pay in advance".

Chart Tool, which has approximately 60k users, has had difficulty establishing itself outside of the US because it is limited to US data. "I kept getting emails from people saying 'Hey I love your app but why don't you have XYZ market?'. The answer is pretty simple. The app is free, and data is expensive. So I launched the campaign."
Once the feed is available, users will be able to get equities from most major exchanges through the app for a flat $5/month, and many campaign contributors will get it for free. But the initial cost of the feed is high and the company is counting on people who've expressed interest to help make the campaign a success.
