PR Log - Feb 21, 2013 - Following the sad death of British TV legend Richard Briers, Acorn Media salutes the performer who brought joy to a nation.
A nation full of television lovers were saddened this week by the news of the passing of Richard Briers, the British comedy icon who will forever be remembered for star turns in some of TV’s most beloved comedies.
The star of hit shows like Marriage Lines and The Good Life, Richard Briers was until recent years an ever present on the British television screens and Brits welcomed all of his loveable characters into their homes.
Marriage Lines was the English actor’s first starring role. He played one half of a newly married couple, alongside young Prunella Scales, in a groundbreaking show which lovingly explored the perils and pitfalls of love, marriage, anniversaries, bickering and making up. The show introduced Briers and Scales to TV audiences, but this wonderful sit-com was just the beginning for both hot comedic screen talents.
It was BBC sitcom The Good Life which made Richard Briers a household name. The actor played Tom Good who, on his 40th birthday, decides to ditch the rat race and live a self sustaining life with his doting wife Barbara, played by Felicity Kendal.
The show introduced the nation to organic foods, self-sufficiency and ‘going green’, as the Good family transformed their suburban home into a working farm, complete with crops, pigs and chickens. Their lifestyle didn’t appeal to their neighbours in the show, but it certainly appealed to British TV audiences, since the show remains popular more than 30 years after it was broadcast.
Acorn Media claims that Marriage Lines and The Good Life continue to be popular titles with Acorn Media online shoppers, and this surely illustrates the popularity and enduring appeal of Richard Briers himself.
