The Giving Pledge gained a new crop of signatories today. The growing group of wealthy philanthropists who commit to giving away at least half of their fortune now extends to billionaires outside the U.S., notably the UK’s Richard Branson, Victor Pinchuk of the Ukraine, and South Africa’s Patrice Motsepe. The framers of the Giving Pledge, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, had always intended to get more names onto the list from outside the U.S., but because of billionaires' pride, discretion or insufficient persuasion, the non-Americans took longer to come around.
