Auto Dealers Sales Climb, But Group 1 Profit Sputters
Auto sales are in overdrive for top-rated national dealerships Group 1 Automotive (GPI) and Asbury Automotive Group (ABG), which reported fourth-quarter results early Wednesday. But shares of Group 1 gapped down sharply early Tuesday after it reported that rising costs stalled profit growth. Group 1's sales grew 19% compared to Q4 last year, to $1.94 billion, topping analyst views of $1.91 billion. Earnings per share rose a slim 5.35% to 99 cents,
