Gas Prices Continue February Spike
Southern California gas prices aren’t showing consumers much love on Valentine’s Day, having jumped more than 50 cents in the last month and about 11 cents in the last week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The state average is $4.087 a gallon for regular today – 9.9 cents higher than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.203 per gallon, which is 11.2 cents more than last week, 51 cents higher than last month, and 32 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.183, 9.2 cents above last week, 52 cents above last month, and 30 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.178, up 12.2 cents from last week, 48 cents higher than a month ago, and 25 cents more than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $4.170, up 11.4 cents from last week, 52 cents higher than last month, and 32 cents more than last year.
“After rising 50 cents in a month, local gas prices are just 50 cents away from the all-time record that was set in October, and the Los Angeles average price for regular is almost the same as the Honolulu average price,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices have been relatively stable for the past two weeks, and if that continues, we should expect pump prices to stop climbing soon.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Feb. 14, averages are:
