PR Log - Feb 12, 2013 - San Francisco, CA -- On Thursday, February 28, 2013, local nonprofit Tutorpedia Foundation will host Education by Design at the Autodesk Gallery in San Francisco. Education by Design marks the organization’s third annual fundraiser and conversation on personalizing education. Tutorpedia Foundation’s mission is to provide high-quality, personalized tutoring and related education services to under-resourced students. All money raised at the event will go to providing free tutoring for low-income students in the Bay Area. This year’s sponsors include Autodesk, Wells Fargo, Picante Catering, The Adventure School, and Jones Day.
This year’s event will feature a series of short talks by dynamic speakers focusing on the most effective methods we can use to make learning personal and customize education in real, relevant, and rigorous ways for all students. Featured speakers include Alexandra Bernadotte (Founder and CEO, Beyond 12), Brian Greenberg (CEO, Silicon Schools Fund), and Kelly Pope (Education Entrepreneur). A panel discussion will follow.
This year, the local education nonprofit is also instituting the Tutorpedia Foundation Award for personalizing education. Cofounder David Taus states, “We’re delighted to announce that we’re taking the opportunity to publicly recognize individuals whose work exemplifies the Foundation’s vision of making education more personal for low-income students in the Bay Area.” During Education By Design, Taus will present the inaugural awards to California State Senator Mark Leno (District 11) and SFUSD teacher and author Sekani Moyenda (Taking It Personally: Racism in the Classroom).
Education by Design will unite 250 students, parents, educators, business leaders, philanthropists and Tutorpedia Foundation supporters for a vibrant evening of community building through inspiring stories, fun educational activities for all ages, delicious food, raffle, photo booth, silent auction, and more.

Tutorpedia Foundation was founded in 2009 by former urban public school teachers, Seth Linden and David Taus. The founders established a track record of success in working with low-income students through the philanthropic efforts of Tutorpedia, Inc., a private education and tutoring business. In 2007, Tutorpedia, Inc. began serving underperforming students at failing Bay Area public schools as a state- authorized Supplemental Educational Services provider – a provision under Title I of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Passionate about their social mission, Linden and Taus founded Tutorpedia Foundation to extend critical support to deserving students and provide a sustainable model to increase educational access to low-income students. Tutorpedia, Inc. supports Tutorpedia Foundation by donating a portion of its profits and assets to the non-profit, in addition to subsidizing directors’ salaries.
