Stocks Counterpunch, Trimming Day's Losses
Stocks fought back Thursday as economic data mostly missed views and the shorts showed signs of adding to bearish bets. The Nasdaq eased 0.1% after being down 1% in midmorning trade. The S&P 500 slipped less than 0.2%. However, the NYSE composite sank 0.5%. Volume rose on the NYSE 1, giving the composite a fifth distribution day. That's an uncomfortably high number, although the other major indexes have fewer days of higher-volume losses. Nasdaq
