PHOENIX, AZ, February 07, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jahi Entertainment artist, Tunde (pronounced: TOON-day), is easily recognizable as the face and pitchman for the well-known Everest College, Everest Institute, Everest University and WyoTech commercials that have inundated TV airwaves for the last 6 years.
Catchphrases like "get off the couch" and "you're on the phone all day anyway" have made Tunde one of the most spoofed, parodied and satirized men on Youtube. He was even the subject of a comedic rant by Mike Epps during his popular stand-up special "Under Rated & Never Faded."
But now Tunde is turning to the world of hip hop, offering a soulful, spiritual song that defies today's cliche rap culture of basic 808 beats and materialistic subject matter.
Tunde has been recording since 1998, but has taken a hiatus in recent years from performing. However, he is no stranger in the local music scene in Phoenix, and has performed in front of thousands of hip hop fans, opening for acts like The Wu-Tang Clan, Gangstar, Hieroglyphics. Tunde was even featured on Soulfly's "Primitive" album on the cult favorite 'In Memory Of..." He toured locally with the band, performing at Ozzfest when Soulfly headlined the second stage.
"I haven't publicly done music for a long time but I've never really stopped working on it," says Tunde. "It's all just creative expression, whether film or music. At the end of the day it's all about what you, as an artist, are selling. I'm really just trying to express various aspects of myself through the music and remain true to who I am."
Tunde is hardly your typical rapper. His rhymes aren't audacious boasts of guns, drugs and strip clubs, but honest reflections of his life and lessons he's learned along the way.
His flow harnesses the unique style of creative, direct expression and witty charm that made his Everest commercials so popular. He brings it all to the music front with "My Life (the Offering)" and his debut album, "You Look Familiar."
"I'm not a drug dealer, I have never even shot a firearm," Tunde admits. "I've never blown 10 grand at a strip club or anything of that nature, but I have lived some life that I think people can relate to. That's why it was important for me to release 'My Life' as the launch song. It's a spiritual song that speaks of God and my everyday walk with Him and how I'm far from perfect, but I believe."
The theme for the release of the song is Matthew 20:16 because "My Life (the Offering)" is the last song on the album but will be the first single to be released on February 5th.
"The album is a secular album but faith is an aspect of my being," says Tunde. "I have a sexual aspect, but I also have a parental, nurturing aspect. I have a political aspect; I'm a smart-ass sometimes, sometimes I'm even mean-spirited. It's all there, good and bad."
"My Life (the Offering)" features vocals from fellow Jahi Entertainment artist Asha Rabouin and D. Scott Music from the Genrepublic Camp.
