Are Nano Computers On The Horizon ?
PR Log - Feb 04, 2013 - WOODFORD, Australia -- Are Nano Computers on the Horizon ?

Researchers in Australia and the United States have recently revealed that a major break through could be just on the horizon in computer engineering. For many years silicon has been the material that has been the building block of  computer chips. However there is an exciting new development that could possibly give birth to Nano computers.

Transistors made up of a composition of metal oxide crystals, that they have used to develop nano scale transistors, could take the place of silicon as a the building blocks of chips that are currently the main stay in electronic engineering..

The chemical compound molybdenum oxide, may be the element preferred as companies pursue increasingly smaller sized, as well as speedier more powerful computer systems.

An affiliate lecturer at RMIT Faculty Melbourne Australia, explained the compound may possibly enable the progression of palm-sized devices while generating the power of desktop computers.

"If we are able to pack additional transistors inside a lesser space, and we are able to operate at a lower temperature, we could then end up with a laptop the dimensions of a mobile phone," he was quoted saying.

Even though assertions of this kind are a regular occurrence in computer engineering, Dr Kalantar-Zadeh stated personal computing advancement had been compromised because silicon had come to the bounds of its potential.

He stated, "it was no longer a possibility to construct more compact transistors using silicon. It was moreover starting to become unattainable to cool silicon adequately to make more efficient microchips, since countless microscopic transistors running at the same time produced an excessive amount of energy."

In the past several years laptop operation had not advanced appreciably, particularly in the previous 12 months, since the total capacity with silicon chips is certainly approaching its optimum potential.

Dr Kalantar-zadeh explained electronic devices progression had plateaued, similar to the automobile business in the Nineteen twenties. Something innovative needs to be done to further develop faster more compact, powerful computer devices he was quoted as saying.

"If we simply cannot create transistors smaller than this, we're saddled with what we have got. If we were stuck at this level of technology a decade ago people around the globe would not now have mobile phones.

A researcher at the Australian CSRIO explained the latest nano-material was developed of layered fabrics much like graphite tiers inside a lead pencil.

"Within these types of levels, electrons have the ability to drive all the way through at great rates of speed together with negligible dispersing," he was quoted saying. He also went on to forecast molybdenum oxide, if adopted by the electronics industries, may be common place in electronic devices in about five to ten years time.

Nonetheless at this stage our current state of the art computers, that you can find at  http://www.laptopsforless.co for example, are unlikely to become extinct over night.
