Dallas, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/01/2013 -- PHA (Poly Hydroxyalkonoates) is aliphatic polyesters produced directly via fermentation of carbon substrate within a microorganism. The feedstocks for PHA production are sucrose, vegetable oils, and fatty acids. Also it can be produced from renewable carbon sources which include sugar and plant oils, and waste materials such as whey, molasses, and starch.PHA, blended with other polyesters has potential to replace polyolefins in packaging applications. Moreover, the use of PHA instead of polypropylene (PP) in the labels for high density polyethylene bottles reduces load on plastic recycling systems.
