Union Pacific’s Q4 Profit Beats, but Revenue Misses (UNP)

Railroad operator Union Pacific Corporation (UNP) on Thursday posted mixed fiscal fourth quarter earnings results, as shipments of automobiles and chemicals increased, while coal shipments continued to decline.

The Omaha-based company reported fiscal fourth quarter net income of $1 billion, or $2.19 per share, compared with $964 million, or $1.99 per share, in the year-ago period.

Revenue rose 3% from last year to $5.25 billion.

On average, Wall Street analysts expected a smaller profit of $2.16 per share, albeit on higher revenue of $5.3 billion.

Union Pacific shares fell $1.40, or -1%, in premarket trading Thursday.
