Cargill closing Texas plant as herds shrink

Cargill Inc. will shutter a beef-processing plant in Texas, as the number of cattle dwindles in the face of a severe drought. Bloomberg reports on the move by the Wazata-based agribusiness giant, which among other things is the nation's largest beef processor. Cargill said that idling its plant in Plainview, Texas, will let its other plants operate more efficiently. The closed plant employed 2,000 people.
