Stocks Shake Free Of Recent Sideways Trade
Stocks shook free of the sideways action the indexes had been showing since the big Jan. 2 surge, moving up moderately Thursday. The NYSE composite led with a 0.9% gain. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq rose 0.8% and 0.5%, respectively. The small-cap S&P 600, which outperformed the major indexes for the last seven weeks of 2012, inched up 0.2%.
