New UH-Clear Lake students can discover all the university has to offer when they attend one of two New Student Orientation events. UH-Clear Lake Pearland Campus will host new students Jan. 10, 6 – 8:30 p.m., on campus at 1200 Pearland Parkway, Pearland, 77581, and UH-Clear Lake invites new students Jan 12, 8:50 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., at the university, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.
A New International Student Orientation is also scheduled for Jan. 10, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., at the UH-Clear Lake campus. This event is mandatory for all new international students and offers information specific to their needs, such as visa requirements, workshops, university and campus life as well as meet other international students.
All orientation events provide new students with valuable information on university policies, expectations and available resources. The UHCL Pearland event offers information on academic honesty and online services, hot topic workshops and gives students a chance to meet with faculty and staff. UH-Clear Lake events include fun activities, an academic advising and faculty panel, workshops, a resource fair and campus tours.

‘Argo’ presented by Film & Speaker Series
Learn more about the rescue of Americans taken hostage during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis when UH-Clear Lake’s Film & Speaker Series presents “Argo,” Jan. 12, 7 p.m., in the Student Services and Classroom Building, Lecture Hall, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.
Directed by Ben Affleck, the film stars Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin and John Goodman and was release to critical acclaim in 2012. The film is rated R. Distinguished speaker is UH-Clear Lake Professor of Public Affairs Roger Durand.

Learn about seismology at physics lecture
Geophysicist Sandra Saldana will share what it takes for a career in seismology when she presents “Have You Ever Considered Being a Seismologist?” at UH-Clear Lake Jan. 24, 7 p.m., in the university’s Bayou Building, Room 1218, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.
Saldana, a geophysicist with Geoscience Technology Group, represents the IRIS Internship Program. She will discuss how understanding fundamentals of Physics makes it possible to find and safely extract the hydrocarbons all rely on every day at this first lecture in the Spring 2012 Physics and Space Science Seminar Series sponsored by UH-Clear Lake’s School of Science and Computer Engineering.
Start the New Year with a Career Exploration Workshop
Embark on a new career path or get ahead on your current one by attending UH-Clear Lake’s Career Exploration Workshop designed to help those seeking a career change, setting new career goals or returning to the work force Jan. 26, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Feb. 2, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p. m, in the Student Services Classroom Building, rooms 3103 and 3109, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.
This two-day workshop is hosted by university counselors and psychologists of the Office of Career and Counseling Services. Participants must attend both workshops.
