Correction to Daily TAQ Master File formatting of OTC Symbols
Posted on December 20, 2012 at 00:00 AM EST
NYSE Technologies would like to advise clients of a correction to the formatting of OTC symbols populating the ‘Symbol’ field at offset 160 in the Daily TAQ Master file. Specifically, the formatting of OTC symbols in this symbol field has now been changed to conform to the 6 root/4 suffix symbology. This should enable users to match between the Daily TAQ Master file and Daily TAQ Trades file using Master file Symbol (offset 160) and Trade file Symbol (offset 10) regardless of symbol origination (i.e. CTA or OTC). It assumes OTC symbology as outlined in the UTDF Specification, which is 1 to 4 root with 5th character relaying information around issue class or type. The following example details the resulting formats for the various “Symbol” fields used within the Master and Trade file. The specific field format change is highlighted below in red. Symbols used in this example are : OTC : Microsoft Class A : MSFTA CTA : IBM Preferred A : IBM PrA Daily TAQ Master File Field Offset Size Symbology Example Symbol (OTC) 14 12 None specified IBMPRA...... This correction has been implemented with effect from files dated Friday December 14, 2012. Full details of the Daily TAQ Master File layout can be found in the Daily TAQ Client Specification .
