Bullying Addressed in Sequel to Popular Novel for Musical Theatre-Loving Teens and Young Adults
PR Log - Dec 07, 2012 - “Bit Players, Bullies and Righteous Rebels” (ISBN-13: 978-1481015103) -- the sequel to last year’s “Bit Players, Has-Been Actors and Other Posers” -- is now available via and A Nook version is coming soon. The novel addresses teen bullying in the context of a high school play.

Author S.M. Stevens is writing the four-book Bit Players series to fill a void in fiction for musical theatre-loving teens and young adults. “Despite the popularity of ‘Glee’ and ‘Smash’ among younger audiences, there are surprisingly few novels out there for this market. The Bit Players novels are meant to introduce newbies to the wonderful world of theatre, and feel like an old friend to experienced thespians, while portraying the struggles dealt with by many teenagers today,” Stevens said.

The first book in the Bit Players series has a 4.5 out of 5 reader rating on

In “Bit Players, Bullies and Righteous Rebels,” protagonist Sadie Perkins just wants the Crudup High drama club's spring musical to go smoothly, but the original production of "Wuthering Heights: A Modern Tragedy" is threatened when an anonymous texter starts bullying Sadie's gay friend Foster, the lead in the play. And Sadie's boyfriend Alex is suddenly acting homophobic, making Sadie wonder if she really knows him at all. On top of that, she has to add to the show a controversial, secret song-and-dance number behind the director's back, to impress the professor from the Yale School of Drama.

The 226-page novel is available in paperback for $6.99 at the Bit Players e-Store now, and soon, on; and as an e-book for $4.99 from Amazon. Both versions include QR codes that can be scanned to access videos of the songs referenced in the novel, so readers can match up the characters’ new lyrics to the original music while they read.

The Bit Players companion website and blog provide resources for teen drama-lovers, including a list of theatrical resources. The Bit Players Pinterest page features scores of visual ideas for costumes, makeup, sets and props, as well as performance videos. Bit Players can also be found on Facebook ( and Twitter (@BitPlayers).

S.M. Stevens grew up in Maine and lives in Central Massachusetts with her two theatre-loving teens.
