Since their launch in 1992, the events have brought holiday cheer to more than 26,000 children from social service agencies who might not have had the chance to experience a joyful holiday.
At each Celebration of Children event, Health Net associates create a festive holiday experience by providing food, arts and crafts activities, games, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a gift for every child.
This year’s Celebration of Children festivities are being held in:
An earlier event was held Dec. 1, 2012, in Arlington, Va., for children with a parent deployed overseas for military duty. It was co-hosted by the United Service Organization (USO) of Metropolitan Washington (USO-Metro).
For each event in California and Arizona, Health Net works with local shelters, social service agencies and other community organizations to invite children from underserved areas who may not have a holiday outside of these special events.
“Health Net is privileged to partner with local organizations to bring holiday joy to children from the communities we serve,” said Jim Woys, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Health Net. “Celebration of Children is a special opportunity for Health Net and its dedicated associates to give something meaningful and brighten thousands of young lives.”
Health Net’s Celebration of Children was created in 1992 after Erika Greaves, wife of then-president of Health Net Roger Greaves, suggested that the company replace the traditional office holiday gathering with a party for underprivileged children. Ever since, Mrs. Greaves has served as the national chair for Celebration of Children. Roger Greaves, now Health Net’s chairman of the board, continues to attend every party from coast-to-coast, helping to carry on the Celebration of Children tradition and legacy.
Celebration of Children is sponsored in part by Health Net, Inc. and the Health Net Foundation, Inc., the charitable foundation of Health Net, Inc.
