Starbucks To Pay Higher Taxes In U.K. After Protests
Coffeehouse giant Starbucks (SBUX) promised to pay more taxes in the U.K. after it became the target of public demonstrations and was accused by officials of "immoral" tax avoidance. The world's largest coffeehouse chain has 700 outlets in Britain, a fraction of its 20,000 coffee bars in 59 countries. It's paid just $13.8 million in taxes over 14 years.
