Stocks Open Mixed In Firm Trade; Apple Dives, Citigroup Surges
Stocks opened in mixed trade Wednesday as company news overpowered the morning's parcel of mixed economic data. The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 0.3%, aided by Citigroup's (C) gain. The Nasdaq, hurt by a diving Apple (AAPL), slipped 0.7%. The S&P 500 edged 0.1% lower. Volume was up 8% on the Nasdaq and 35% higher on the NYSE compared with the same time Tuesday.
