He was greeted in the Oval Office by President Barack Obama. The visit followed a morning symposium at the Embassy of Sweden for the 2012 American Nobel laureates, moderated by Alan I. Leshner, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This evening Shapley is expected to attend an event honoring the Nobel recipients at the residence of the Swedish ambassador.  Shapley, a professor of economics and mathematics, is scheduled to accept his Nobel Prize in Stockholm on Dec. 10.
