International artists offer printmaking demonstration
University of Houston-Clear Lake Art Gallery hosted a printmaking demonstration in early November with Serbian artists Slobodan Radojković and Biljana Vuković. Held in the printmaking studio housed at the university’s Arbor Building, 39 visitors attended the free show-an-tell event.

Radojković, a graphic workshop coordinator at the Gallery of Contemporary Fine Arts in Niš, Serbia, had an exhibition of his woodcuts on display in the university Art Gallery earlier this fall. Vković is a professor in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, which is a member of UH-Clear Lake’s International Art Consortium.

Attendees watched both artists as well as university faculty members Susan Dubois, Miguel Herrera and Sandria Hu share their craft. They demonstrated a selection of printmaking techniques, including woodcuts, etching, solar plate etching and copper plate etching. Assisting the artists were volunteers from a university printmaking course.

The International Art Consortium, which was created in 2003 and originally included UH-Clear Lake, University of Hawaii in Hilo, Hawaii, Universidad de Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico, and the University of West Bohemia in Plzen, Czech Republic, has grown to also include the University of Arts in Belgrade Serbia and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia. Most recently, the Kherson Educational-Aesthetic Complex Children’s Art School in the Ukraine was added to the consortium. The consortium strives for the international exchange of dialogue and cultural creativity among artists and teachers.
