FedEx is testing Kenworth tractors powered by liquefied natural gas-only engines made by Cummins Westport as a possible alternative to regular gas-fueled vehicles. The two tractors will log 1,000 miles daily to see if the engines can meet the company’s day-to-day operational needs. Natural gas is cheaper than the diesel which powers FedEx’s current fleet of 14,000 trucks.
A new survey by Emerson Network Power finds that data center energy costs and equipment efficiency are top-of-the-list issues for data center managers. Many managers are using monitoring and data center infrastructure management—DCIM--tools to provide visibility into capacity, budgets, and efficiency initiatives. The survey polled 160 members of the Data Center Users’ Group, an association of data center, IT, and facility managers sponsored by Emerson Network Power.
