FPL is Monitoring Tropical Storm Ernesto; Urges Customers to Do the Same

Florida Power & Light Company is keeping a close watch on Ernesto, currently a tropical storm, but expected to intensify again to a hurricane after crossing Cuba and reaching the Florida Straight. As FPL has tracked Ernesto throughout the weekend, the company began getting FPL crews -- linemen, vegetation management and support personnel ready to respond. The FPL Emergency Operations Center is activated.

All indications are that Ernesto will impact some of FPL's heavily populated urban areas affecting a great number of FPL's infrastructure. As with other recent hurricanes, FPL is asking its customers to be prepared. Hurricanes are dangerous storms that will have an impact on the electrical infrastructure. FPL's power restoration plan calls for restoring service to the greatest number of customers as quickly and safely as possible and concurrently, the restoration plan also calls for restoring critical infrastructure such as police, fire, hospitals, and water & sewer facilities to get damaged communities moving again.

FPL reminds customers they can visit http://www.FPL.com for more information regarding hurricane tips including generator safety, precautions regarding downed power lines, flooding, protecting electric equipment and much more. And above all, FPL urges its customers to keep their families safe.
