CHICAGO, Nov. 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tutoring Chicago announced its recent update to its long-term strategy, which includes a name change reflecting its expansion into more areas of Chicago. A newly rebranded web site is available at www.tutoringchicago.org.
"We are very excited about the evolution of our name and organization," said Erin McPartlin, Executive Director of Tutoring Chicago. "On a practical level, the new name is accessible, simple to say and easy to remember. Similar to our old brand name, this one also defines what we do directly and states whom we serve. The new name enables us to remain positioned as a nonprofit, community-oriented organization, and more accurately reflects our target market which today includes local neighborhoods beyond Cabrini Green."
Since 1965, the organization has supported children from Cabrini Green and the Near North areas. More recently, it has begun expanding its reach to other areas of the city, remaining committed to providing free one-to-one tutoring for economically disadvantaged children. Tutoring Chicago now serves children from more than 11 Chicago schools, with locations in Lincoln Park and Logan Square and approximately 300 children meeting weekly with their volunteer tutors.
Tutoring Chicago prides itself on its high-quality programs, with strong improvements being documented in the students' grades and reading proficiency. Their Literacy Intensive Tutoring (LIT) program boasted 85% of its at-risk students performing proficiently or above grade level in reading by spring 2012 compared to 39% in fall 2011. Tutoring Chicago plans to serve more children over time with expanded services and new locations.
