UHCL spring 2013 registration announced

Find out why the choice is clear when choosing a university during open registration at UH-Clear Lake taking place through Jan. 11. Register online or by visiting the university’s Student Services and Classroom Building, Office of Admissions, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.  
 
Potential, new and current students are invited to register now for classes beginning Jan. 14 and running through May 6. Spring late registration runs from Jan. 12 – 22.
 
Applications to attend the university are due to the Office of Admissions for new degree-seeking graduate students by Dec. 1. New undergraduate students and former non-degree seeking undergraduate and graduate students must apply by the priority application deadline of Jan. 7. Enroll in person, online or by mail with completed admission application.

UH-Clear Lake observes holiday

To observe the Thanksgiving holiday, University of Houston-Clear Lake will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23. The university’s Alfred R. Neumann Library will re-open Saturday, Nov. 24, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and again Sunday, Nov. 25, 1 – 5 p.m. In case of emergency, call the university police at 281-283-2222.
 

Event planned to recognize international day against violence

To recognize International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – Human Trafficking, UH-Clear Lake will host a free event that includes a guest speaker Monday, Nov. 26, noon – 1 p.m., in the university’s Bayou Building, Garden Room, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058.  
 
Keynote speaker for this event is Naomi Bang, senior attorney at FosterQuan, LLP and adjunct professor at South Texas College of Law. She specializes in federal immigration litigation.
 
Designated in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women invites governments and international organizations to organize awareness raising activities. Marking the brutal 1960 assassination of the Mirabal sisters who were political activists in the Dominican Republic, the Nov. 25 date has been recognized by activists since 1981.

Choose a new career at the Career Exploration Workshop

Discover a new career path or gain insight on the current one by attending UH-Clear Lake’s Career Exploration Workshop Nov. 30, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Dec. 7, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p. m, in the university’s Student Services and Classroom Building rooms 3103 and 3109, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, 77058. 
 
Designed to help those seeking a career change, setting new career goals or returning to the work force, this two-day workshop is hosted by university counselors and psychologists of Career and Counseling Services.
 
Participants must attend both workshops. The fee is $200 per person for the general public, while UH-Clear Lake faculty and students attending other schools pay $100. Discounts are available for UH-Clear Lake students and alumni.

Support area artists and start your holiday shopping at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s annual Art Association sale Nov. 26 through Dec. 1, in the university’s Bayou Building, Atrium I, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston.
 
Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. – noon, and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. Original artwork for sale will include fibers, weaving, printmaking, drawing paining, ceramics, sculpture and photography.
 
This event is the university’s longest continuous-running student art sale.

Autism Speaker Series lecture on toilet training

Parents, caregivers or teachers of children with autism can receive tips on toilet training when University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities offers “Tips for Making Toilet Training Successful” by Mia Caccavale. Dec. 8, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., in the university’s Student Services and Classroom Building, Lecture Hall, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, TX, 77058.   
 
Also offered will be “Overview of the Picture Exchange Communication System” by Jasmyne Patterson.  Both presentations are part of the Autism Speaker Series, sponsored by Hegwood & Associates, P.C., Johnson Space Center Federal Credit Union, Spectrum of Hope & BASIS and Susie Bean. Complimentary lunch will be provided.
