Orlando, Florida (PRBuzz.com) November 16, 2012 -- Increased concerns about homeless children and their families in Southwest Orlando led a group of Orlando doctors to lend a hand to help make a difference for struggling families.
Since its inception in early 2012, RSVP has been very active in raising funds to help families in the Greater Orlando area. Their initial project consisted of working with Florida Hospital's Community Outreach Bithlo project. Dr. Joe Bancroft of the RSVP group stated, "During the school year, kids eat lunches at the school. However, during the summer break when the school is out, these kids have nowhere to go for a hot meal. We helped to fill this gap. In addition, on Veteran's Day, we spent a day with these kids giving them new school uniforms and shoes to replace the clothes and shoes with holes. For these kids, the ordinary things like shoes and clothes that we take for granted are precious. It is heartbreaking yet heart-warming to see these kids respond to kindness and the fact that someone cares about them."
This holiday season, RSVP is working with the Sister to Sister Outreach program to provide turkey dinners to over 100 families in Southwest Orlando. RSVP's involvement continues after the holidays by providing assistance to these families the fourth week of each month when most families run out of food stamps and other government assistance.
RSVP will continue its holiday season tradition of support for the Adopt-A-Family campaign which assists needy families in the community to add a bit of Christmas joy.
According to Dr. Bancroft, "RSVP's doctors believe that being a physician doesn't just mean healing the physical illnesses. It means reaching out to our neighbors, especially the children, and lending them a hand when they need it. By providing food and educational support, each Radiology Specialists of Florida member strengthens these children's hope that they can overcome this hardship and become all they dream of being."
