As mining expansion projects ceased or were put on hold, the commercial sector slowed slightly. Despite the uncertainty brought on my economic fluctuations, there was still activity in the rail sector, with environmental engineers and scientists highly sought after.
Richard Dale, manager of engineering recruitment adds, "Although recruitment remained stable in quarter three, there were strong levels of hiring within commissioning activities due to the mining sectors’ commitment to on site development, management and construction. As market confidence returns, we expect the industry to recover well."
The update also found there was a reduction in temporary staff in favour of high calibre, long tenured career candidates. This was driven by a need to ensure teams were operating effectively.
