Panasonic today announced that it has been named an International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for its Panasonic WhisperRecessed(TM) ventilation fan in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technologies product category. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a pre-eminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting-edge consumer electronics products across 32 product categories.
The CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award Honoree designation results from recognition of innovative features incorporated into consumer electronics products that demonstrate energy efficiency, environmentally conscious manufacturing processes, product sustainability, and resource conservation.
As the industry's most energy efficient and quiet ENERGY STAR(R) certified recessed fan/light, the WhisperRecessed resembles a designer can-light but features a quiet and powerful ventilation fan hidden in the ceiling. The 80 CFM fan/light removes indoor pollutants, allergens, and moisture from the air and is 187% more energy efficient than ENERGY STAR standards.
WhisperRecessed is designed to provide 30,000+ hours of continuous, trouble-free operation with its permanently lubricated motor. Since heat is detrimental to motor life, the electrical configuration of the motor has been designed to operate at lower temperatures, increasing the life of the motor and bearings. The fan housing is made of heavy-gauge zinc galvanized steel and painted to protect it from rust. WhisperRecessed complies with the RoHS directive, which restricts the use of hazardous substances commonly found in manufacturing process.
"Panasonic is honored to receive this recognition from the Consumer Electronics Show as it acknowledges our commitment to provide innovative and sustainable technologies that help improve indoor air quality and reduce energy costs," said Anita So, marketing manager, Panasonic Eco Products Division.
The Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)(R), the producer of the International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow; the CEA has been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. The Best of Innovations honor is awarded to the products with the highest judges' scores; honorees' products will be featured in the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase at the 2013 International CES.
The Eco-Design and Sustainable Technologies entries are judged based on the following criteria:
- Environmentally friendly engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used
- Environmentally friendly aesthetic and design qualities, using photos provided
- The product's intended use/function and user value as it impacts the environment
- Why the product deserves the Innovations award, including specifics regarding its unique/novel features and features that consumers would find attractive
- How the design and innovation of this product directly compare to other products in the market place
Panasonic's WhisperRecessed ventilation fan will be displayed at the 2013 International CES, which runs January 8-11, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV.
