The Automotive SSD market demand is expected to continue to surge as much as the dramatic growth of SSD revenue in last three years. It can be explained as the concerns of car manufacturers over SSD as automotive storage have been relieved, and the enormous high IOPS of SSD can guarantee the performance into the different paradigm of multimedia for automobile. Physical reliability is also key factor of Automotive storage. The annual market size for Automotive SSD is expected to reach 25million units by year 2017.
Storage devices for cars must be designed to tolerate vibrations and shocks that constantly occur during the car moves. That means strong physical solidity is required. Unlike the combination of state-of-the-art analog engineering components in the legacy hard disk, the SSD is in solid state with no moving parts and thus is the most optimal storage device for automotive AVN system.

Despite of its physical advantages, it is not easy to adopt the SSD in AVN system due to inherent characteristics of cars such as sudden power on/off and inconsistent power supply from battery to the AVN system. This is the worst possible circumstance where data in storage device can be lost any time. Therefore, highly reliable SPOR (Sudden Power Off Recovery) is one of the essential requirements that must be guaranteed by SSD controller for the storage device of AVN system.

The SSD based on Bugatti (Novachips SATA 6Gbps SSD controller) showed the performance beyond the requirement of the automotive storage device.
