Homeowner Gets Locked Out of Her House by Renters reports Locksmith San Antonio
(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 15, 2012 ) San Antonio, TX -- When the housing market started struggling many people took a new approach to selling their properties. Take Pushpa Verma for example who bought her house four years ago, but decided to rent it in order to make money in such a bad market. Verma, who is a realtor herself, said, "I lost my prospective tenant.

However, Verma came across something rather unusual when she last tried to show her house to a potential renter recently. When she went to show the house, Verma discovered that the locks had been changed and she could not get in.

"I said 'what in the hell is going on?'" she said.

Verma said that after further inspection, she found odd blue stickers painting the house the stated the house was being winterized, a process in which the bank sends a company to take control of a house that has been abandoned or foreclosed on.

"They broke into my house; they changed the locks and put the stickers here," she said.

While Verma admitted she is behind on her mortgage payment, she said the notice was nothing she had any awareness of.

"My house is not in foreclosure," said Verma.

She couldnt get answers out of anyone and was thoroughly angered and confused.

"This is not acceptable," said Verma, "I've got my hard money invested in this house for someone to rip me off."

Jacksonville Attorney Chip Parker said Ms. Verma was unlawfully taken advantage of:

"What is suppose to happen is that the lender should make reasonable attempts to contact the owner," said Parker, "and only absent the ability to contact the owner should they take the extraordinary step of securing the property."

He said that before taking action, the bank was supposed to inform Ms. Verma about their intentions.

"There's not really a bad guy here, except this could have been avoided through communication," said Parker.

SInce the incident, Verma has changed the locks and has started looking for new renters.

A spokesperson for Lender Processing Services (who switched the locks) said:

"As with all properties, we work with the mortgage company to resolve any concerns. It is important to note, however, that LPS is not a mortgage servicer -- and never was a mortgage servicer. LPS does not make default or foreclosure decisions, evict borrowers, or make decisions to evict borrowers."
