Chartwell Launches NY Workers' Compensation Practice
November 13, 2012 (MMD Newswire) -- The Chartwell Law Offices, LLP has announced the opening of its New York Workers' Compensation Practice. Chartwell now defends employers, third-party administrators, and workers' compensation carriers in New York workers' compensation and related employment litigation.

Chartwell's NY Workers' Compensation practice group is led by Alan Katkin, a veteran workers' comp litigator and a past president of the NY Workers' Compensation Bar Association. Mr. Katkin has lectured nationally about the field, and was a pioneer in the handling of the thorny Medicare Set-Aside issues. Also joining the NY Workers' Compensation group is John Kwak, a graduate of Columbia University and Cardozo Law School. Chartwell's NY office is located at One Battery Park Plaza. The office will service hearing points throughout NYC and the nearby surrounding counties.

"The workers' compensation system in New York is uniquely challenging for employers and carriers", noted Mr. Katkin. "There are some new strategies now available to help control liability and exposure, and I am excited about joining Chartwell to help our clients develop more aggressive and creative defense strategies in the handling of their cases".

Chartwell practices workers' compensation and employment litigation throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The firm represents hundreds of self insured employers, workers' compensation carriers, governmental agencies and other entities. More than 30 Chartwell attorneys devote their full time practices to workers' compensation and related employment litigation. Chartwell attorneys routinely serve as lecturers, authors, amicus curiae counsel, and course planners for the practice area's leading providers and organizations.

Occupational disease cases are of special interest to Chartwell. Chartwell lawyers have litigated thousands of complex disease cases, including cases flowing from the World Trade Center disaster. We represent cities, municipalities, and other employers in occupational disease cases ranging from fatal cancer claims to claims for occupational hearing loss. Another area of acute focus is the development of innovative medical and legal strategies for combating the rampant abuse of prescription narcotics by workers' compensation claimants.
