Galveston Restaurant Group (GRG) recently opened their latest dining concept at Pier 21 – Nonno Tony’s World Kitchen. GRG owners Johnny Smecca, Joey Smecca, and Danny Hart collectively bring more than 100 years of experience to their newest establishment at Pier 21. Nonno Tony’s is GRG’s seventh restaurant concept and brings together the best dishes from their diverse collection of dining experiences.
“Nonno” is Italian for “Grandfather” and Nonno Tony’s World Kitchen serves as a delicious tribute in honor of co-owners Johnny and Joey Smecca’s father, Tony Smecca. The unique restaurant offers casual diners upscale cuisine ranging from Italian to Creole, traditional American fare to Asian fusion. Food is prepared in an open style kitchen featuring a steam kettle bar and brick ovens. The menu includes delicious offerings such as Nonno’s Chopped Salad, a Sicilian style rice ball called Arancini, a uniquely flavored Crispy & Spicy Atlantic Salmon, and all natural grass fed hormone free aged beef steaks. Paulie’s Bar, named in honor of co-owner Danny Hart’s father, will also offer an extensive beer and wine list for those looking for a tasty drink to pair with a satisfying meal.
“We love the historical nature and the alive waterfront atmosphere. Locals love it, visitors love it, and everything is close by in walking distance. We love what Mitchell Historic Properties has done to preserve this area of downtown. That’s why we are excited to bring Nonno Tony’s to Pier 21,” says Johnny Smecca.
Nonno Tony’s World Kitchen is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Pier 21. Nonno Tony’s offers early and late night happy hours.
